15 Twin Ct, St. Albans Town
Family-friendly with large, historic houses down Main Street
Bakersfield residents enjoy this quiet, family-friendly country town with large, historic houses and easy commute to St. Albans and Burlington.
In its early years, the town flourished around obvious agricultural pursuits, and the private school Brigham Academy, named for famous son Peter Bent Brigham, who had settled the area in 1797, six years after Vermont became a state. Regional students came and boarded with local families until 1966. Alumni keep the local Historical Society busy with questions and contributions to the collection. There were several small farms right in town, and for a time, a track for horse-racing. That track now is a hay field.
Our grandmother attended Brigham Academy in elementary school. Today local students attend the local public school from Kindergarten to Grade 8 in the same newer building. Then, through Choice, they can attend any area high school or the VoTech program for their high school years.
It is fairly 10 miles equidistant from Enosburg to the North, Jeffersonville to the South, and St. Albans to the West. It boasts the pre-requisite post office, country library, convenience store/gas station, and a trusted general mechanic. The closest hospital is in St. Albans, about 15 miles West on Route 36. UVM Medical Center is about 45 minutes West and South, down interstate 89.
The town has public water service for many, but no public septic service. DSL, cable and glass fiber internet are available. There is a small town trail, large annual fourth of July celebration with fireworks, music, food, ice cream and sometimes a parade. Emergency services are provided by the local fire company and VT state police by calling 911.
